Project- Surface Water- River
Rivers of the study area
Some of the most important rivers in Baluchestan include: Kahir, Nik Shahr, Bampur, Kaju, Sarbaz, Bahu Kalat, Mashkid or Mashkel, Rabich or Fanuj, Sianjan or Talkhab, Ladiz, Gaz.
Nikshahr River
This river is one of the largest rivers in the Makran region, both in terms of length and drainage basin. The headwaters of its tributaries originate from the mountains south of Iranshahr. The drainage basin of this river is more than several hundred square kilometers. In the rainy seasons, one of the most torrential runoffs occurs in this river and its tributaries. If the runoff and seasonal waters of this river are controlled and managed, it will be possible to create the largest water reservoir in the country for transfer to the coastal cities of the Oman Sea and also to return and transfer them to Zahedan and Zabol. The length of this river is 85 kilometers and the average width of its main branch is 300 meters.
Kahir River
The continuation of the Nik Shahr River to the south is called the Kaher River. The name is taken from a village of the same name built in the foothills of this part of Makran. There is a dam under construction on this river north of the village of Kaher. The water from this dam can be used for agriculture, in addition to supplying water to the port of Konarak and the Konarak airport areas. If other dams, especially sediment dams, are built on this river and more water can be stored, it will be possible to grow the best citrus fruits and tropical fruits in this region.
Kaher River originates from Mount Ben Tagh Siah Kuh, 38 kilometers northwest of Nik Shahr, and flows south as the Darkhan River. Along the way, this river joins several small rivers and is finally called Kaher in the Konarak area.
Garakan River
This river initially creates three large branches and three large drainage basins from east to west, named the Jodar (Morteghan), Malouran, and Bent rivers.
The headwaters of all three branches of the river originate from the mountains south of Fenouj in the south of Jazmourian. The source rocks are Cretaceous ophiolites from north to south, tectonically mixed complexes of sedimentary and ophiolitic rocks, and Eocene flysch. The drainage basin of this river also has an area of several hundred square kilometers. The riverbed is very wide, indicating that a very large volume of water has flowed through it, and during the seasonal and runoff waters, it can produce millions of cubic meters of water for drinking, agriculture, and even industry. On one of the southern branches of the river, which has a drainage basin to the northwest of the main branch and also has a relatively large drainage basin, suitable locations for dam construction can be defined.
The length of the Garakan River from its source to the Oman Sea is 120 kilometers, and the average width of the three northern branches is 100 meters and the average width of the main branch is 350 meters.
Rabich(Fanuj River)
Rabich (Fanuj) River originates from several tributaries 120 kilometers southwest of Iranshahr and joins the Ramp, Gwasan, and Karzichi rivers near the village of Fenouj. It flows south as the Fenouj River from the valley between the Dandehor Mountains in the east and the Sefidkuh Mountains in the west. After passing through the Bakhsh of Bent, Karvandar, and Galag, it enters Chabahar County and joins other rivers in this area. It flows into the Oman Sea as the Rabich River south of the village of Galag.

The Rivers of the Bent- Hengam Basin
The Bent River is the continuation of the Fenouj River that flows in the sub-basins of Bent and Payab Rabich. The Saguz River joins it from the right bank and west of the Bent sub-basin, and the Chah Khan River, with an east-west direction, joins it from the left bank after joining the Bandini River.
The Bandini River itself is one of the important rivers of the Bent sub-basin, which is formed by the confluence of the headwaters of Avgar, Nasparan, Chah Ali, Zart, Kahlo, and Chahestan. It flows in the eastern half of the Bent basin with a northeast to southwest direction until it meets the Bent River. After the confluence with the Bandini and Chah Khan rivers, the Bent River takes a northeast-southwest direction and continues its course. The Gedi River from the right bank of the adjacent sub-basin joins it, and after the confluence with the Berg River from the left bank, it enters the Payab Rabich sub-basin. In this sub-basin, the Gahyan River from the left bank and the Karan River from the right bank join it and it changes its name to the Rabich River and flows towards the Oman Sea.
The Rivers of the Fenouj Basin
The Fenouj River is the main river of the Fenouj sub-basin. The direction of this river is approximately north-south. After leaving the basin, this river changes its name to the Bent River.
